Specialness: Theme and Variations
Kenneth Wapnick, Ph.D.
July 2010
This 2010 seminar explores the theme of specialness, what it is, and how it is treated in the Course. Specialness and special relationships pervade absolutely every area of our lives. Underlying all special relationships is the belief that something is missing in us: that we have thrown away our innocence and destroyed the Love of God. The ego's way to escape the terror, anxiety, and pain of this inner lack is to fill this hole in our lives with special love and special hate relationships. These come in various shapes and sizes—variations on the theme of specialness. Understanding specialness is essential to understanding how the ego works. Without that understanding, there is no way we can ask the right question of the Holy Spirit or Jesus to help us remember that we are minds, not bodies, that can choose again.
